One of my new blog subscribers sent me the following email yesterday looking for some advice.  I have heard many versions of this story, so I wanted to take a moment and really address some of the issues described here.

Here is his question:

“What I really want to know is what really works and you actually get paid for your efforts? What gets good quality responses and not so many time wasters. Adwords I found to be a total waste of time and money. I have yet to find a program that actually pays.  I don’t mind following a proven method, but I have been burned that many times that I am extremely cautious.

I want something that can make it real for me before I start putting more time and money on another dead end program. Is there such a thing on the internet? I’ve tried affiliate programs on ClickBank and got 0 results.  Where is all this dream income I keep reading about?

The followers I have on Twitter all seem like they are just on autopilot and not real users at all.  Any advice would be welcome, but I want to see results for my efforts and so far it has been a total waste of time and money.”

The truth of the matter is that most online marketers come up against this wall when they are experimenting with ways to make money online.  I certainly have, and I can absolutely relate to everything said here, as this was my experience when I got started a few years back.

This scenario is exactly why the vast majority of people (I would estimate 85-95%) who take a stab at online marketing abandon it in frustration after a few weeks or months.

Solutions for the frustration and pain of producing no results in online marketing

I have 2 things to say about this–and I am not going to beat around the bush.  This is just the honest truth as I see it, and if you listen to this advice carefully you can save years of wasted time and a TON of squandered income as well.

#1– This scenario is directly due to a lack of marketing skill and knowledge. If nobody is buying from you, it usually does not have to do with the program or marketing method you are using; it has to do with your marketing skills.

Your target market is always, always giving you perfect feedback.  If they aren’t buying, it just means they are telling you they don’t see the value in what you are offering.

Look at it this way:  You just can’t say that Adwords, Twitter, Clickbank, and so on flat out do NOT work.  I, along with many of my friends and colleagues, make a TON of money using these strategies. (One of my mentors generates 350-400 leads per day from Adwords alone and is making around 1.5 million a year just from this strategy).  If there are others having a high level of success like this, we can’t blame the marketing strategy as the cause of our problems.

Did I make money when I first started out?  Hell no!  I lost money and it was PAINFUL.  But what I realized is that it was not the fault of any strategy I was using; it was entirely due to the fact that I had CRAPPY marketing skills.  So what did I do?

I hired a mentor and actually immersed myself in developing this critical skill set.  I committed myself every day to soaking up new knowledge and refining what I already knew.

Any marketing strategy or business model can make you wealthy, whether it’s Adwords, social media, blogging, affiliate marketing, or network marketing.  All of the money is made by the 3% of people who commit to their marketing education and who will do whatever it takes to become successful.

It it was easy to make money online, everyone would be doing it–yet few are.  There is a reason why 98% of the people in our modern society have a day job; they just aren’t willing to do what it takes to create the freedom they want.

It took me several months of trying new things and failing over and over until I started to see some positive results.  I think this is just a rite of passage into online marketing success, one that few people are willing to endure.

Here is the amazing thing that happens if you are willing to hang in there: You will come to understand exactly what it takes to create income at will, and you can duplicate your efforts across multiple strategies.  This is when it gets fun.

2.  Your mindset is the foundation of your success. You have already heard me use the word commitment.  What I have found is that it takes tenacity to succeed in life and business.  Most people interpret failure as a sign that they should just give up.

Here is the mindset you absolutely MUST embrace in order to be successful in online or network marketing:

I will keep working at this until I am successful.  I don’t care how many times I fail.  I won’t give up.  In fact, with each failure I will raise my energy and passion, knowing that the more I fail, the closer I am getting to success.  I will NOT buy into doubt, blame, or feeling like a victim.  I will be 100% accountable for my actions and take full responsibility for every detail of my successes and failures.

Nothing can stop me from creating the life and business I want.  I don’t care what it takes– I am fully committed to creating freedom in my life.

Here is my take on this:  If you don’t have this attitude, what’s the point??  If you want freedom (whether it’s financial, time, emotional or spiritual), it all starts with OWNING this level of conviction for yourself.

You see, most marketers are timid.  They reluctantly try one or two business-building methods, then quit when they aren’t seeing immediate results.

Your results are always based on how massive your actions are.  Take massive action, you’ll get massive results.  Now, that may be MASSIVE FAILURE on your first several attempts!  That’s part of the path, my friend.  It really is true that you have to fail your way to success.  Just don’t be timid about it—jump in and start going FULL OUT on achieving your goals.

To conclude, there is are 2 practical steps you want to take right now that I deem ESSENTIAL:

• Find a mentor– Whether that is me or someone else, I can’t say.  But find someone who has accomplished what you are trying to do and soak up that person’s wisdom.  Every single successful online marketer I have ever known hands down has worked very closely with a mentor.  You can go to the work with Kevin page to learn more about joining my mastermind team.

• Commit to mastering one marketing skill–just one! Do NOT start with Adwords unless you are working closely with a mentor, as it is a guaranteed way to lose money.  Start with something for free, like Facebook, Twitter, blogging, or article marketing.  Do not move on to another strategy until that one starts producing results.  You are not allowed to say it does not work!  It will work if your skill set is fully developed.
