The lesson I am going to share with you here is one that has taken me literally several years to not only understand, but to really respect in terms of how true and powerful it is. I am sure you have heard the term ‘attraction marketing’ by now; it is a phrase that has been made popular in the network marketing industry, mainly as a result of so many home-based business owners feeling downright fed up with the traditional tactics of pitching their biz opp to to their friends and family.
Several years ago, I was involved with a network marketing company where I really poured my heart and soul into the old school way of building my business. I made ‘the dreaded list’ of people I knew and forced myself to have a conversation about my opportunity with many of them. I bought and did cold-calling. I even did some things that were frankly so humiliating that I just can NOT share them here (maybe someday..)
Much to my dismay, all of my effort and pain was in vain. I just could not get my business launched no matter how hard I tried. At the time, I had no idea why. I was doing everything my upline told me to do. I was willing to spend time and money in building my business. I did my best to maintain a positive attitude. I absorbed all kinds of training on closing leads. None of it worked.
It took me a few years to understand why. Now, I can laugh at those times.. but I am very sympathetic when I talk to business owners who are still relying on these methods. You see, the problem was that I had no real clue about marketing–and neither did my upline.
It wasn’t until I turned to the internet that I really found the solution. Attraction marketing is based on the idea that, as a business owner, you need to position yourself as a trusted and reliable expert, one that people can turn to for guidance and support. There are essentially 2 distinct mindsets you can favor when you are trying to build your business:
1. I need something from other people in order to be successful (this was my first approach)
2. I have something that people need from me, and this is the basis of the success of myself and the people I help (this is the approach I use now)
Most business owners are still going about their marketing efforts favoring approach number one. They are desperately trying to get clients and customers instead of positioning themselves effectively so that they literally ‘attract’ their target market to them in a virtually effortless way. Approach #1 is painful and hard; approach #2 is fun and easy. Which do you want?
Okay, so if you are intrigued by attraction marketing, you are going to need a formula that you use on a daily basis. You still need to take action and be systematic about your marketing. But instead of chasing people, you are going to let them find you. Here is how I recommend you do that:
1. Set up a wordpress blog and brand yourself as a leader (I own a web design and internet marketing company and we can handle every detail of this for you if you need help. 2. Post content to your blog every single day that is related to your niche.
3. Repurpose your content on various social media sites like Hubpages, Squidoo, and through sites like Twitter and Facebook. Then do the same through online article directories.
Your goal is to write a little every day and then get your content all over the internet with as many backlinks to your website as possible.
Remember, attraction marketing is a concept that will greatly help any service-based business owner who wants to use internet marketing as a main way to get exposure. You do NOT have to be a network marketer to implement this formula.
Yes, this sounds pretty simple–and it really is once you get the hang of it. Web 2.0 technology offers you the perfect medium for leveraging the power of attraction marketing. What is important is that you take action right now and start moving proactively toward your goals!
