Online Marketing Success

I don’t care what business you have– if you are doing any marketing online the greatest asset you have is your list.  One of your main marketing goals is to build your list to be as targeted and as large as possible.  The faster the better!

If yours is one of the 50% of websites or blogs out there that do not have an opt in form where people can leave their name and email address, this is priority numero uno.  You will need an email marketing service ( I recommend www.aweber.com) that will allow you to capture your web visitor’s information and organize each new lead in your database, and then be able to communicate with your entire database with pushbutton ease.

Simply put, if you have not done this yet, you are leaving money on the table. 

I do a lot of coaching within the network marketing industry.  It’s just mind-boggling to me that company replicated websites typically do not allow their distributors to capture contact information.  Either the web visitor signs up or they leave (99% will do the latter).  This is one of the main reasons why you want control over your own blog or website:  You want to create your own marketing funnel that will allow you to stay in touch with anyone even remotely interested in your business opportunity.

Here are 3 tips that will greatly enhance your conversion from web visitor into lead:

1 Create an irresistible offer-- Don’t just tell your web visitor to sign up for a free newsletter.  It’s not enticing enough.  They have no idea what value they will be getting from that.  Show them very clearly what they will get if they opt in.  Put a dollar value on it ($97 is a good one).  Be very specific about the benefits they will immediately receive if they download your free information.  Lay on those benefits!  Your web visitor should be left saying, ‘how could I possibly pass this up??’

Don’t be afraid to give away some of your best stuff for free.  Give them a taste of the value you can offer.  A helpful guide in this regard is to make your free report or e-course helpful but incomplete.

2. Create a video next to your opt in form– Shoot a simple 2 minute video that welcomes your visitor to your site and then encourages them to leave their name and email in the form below the video.  Be clear about what you want them to do.  Video converts better than no video.  People like getting to see and hear you; it builds trust much faster.

3.  Position your opt in form above the fold in the upper right corner of the home page– The positioning of the opt in form has been tested by many savvy internet marketers and, from most of the trusted resources out there I have been exposed to, the consensus is that it’s best to put the form in the upper right on your home page.

Make sure that you are seeing your website through your target market’s eyes as much as possible.  Would you leave your name and email on your website as it currently stands?  People are getting pickier about which lists they opt in to, which means you need to give a ton of value up front in order to generate a lead.

It is also a very smart idea to closely track what is happening when people go to your site.  A remarkable website is www.clicktale.com which will give you all kinds of data about your web visitors:  how long they are on your site, what % are converting into leads, what page they exit the site from, how long they are on each page… it’s pretty crazy how closely it can all be tracked.  You can also get Google Analytics for free.

If you are already doing what I recommend above, that’s awesome.. but just be willing to keep tweaking your landing pages because the conversion can always be higher, right?
