MLM Success–The #1 Quality for Success in Network Marketing

Many factors contribute to a successful network marketing business.  I want to share with you what I have found to be the most important one of all based on my own personal experience and having coached hundreds of entrepreneurs over the past several years.

When I decided that I wanted to be an entrepreneur, I wasn’t really clear on the actual work I would need to do to succeed.  I thought that if I just met a lot of people and took a lot of action, everything would work out fine.  In my first network marketing company, this is exactly what I did.  I networked both in person and on the phone calling leads.  I did everything I could think of to market my opportunity.

And none of it worked.

That got me thinking that I must be missing some key ingredient to success, as I was doing everything my upline told me to do.   Actually to be honest, my first reaction was that this industry was just not for me and that I should leave it far behind, which is what I did for a few years.  But there was an underlying feeling that I had missed some essential quality and that if I could just identify it, there was a real chance of building a very successful MLM organization.

Now I realize that this quality is not something unique to network marketing; it is one that pretty much makes or breaks the success of any entrepreneur. What is it?

Value.

That one word summarizes what you need to become a successful entrepreneur.  When I was trying to market my opportunity the first time around, I wasn’t offering anything of value to my target market (in fact, I didn’t even have a target marketing–it was pretty much anybody with a pulse).

I was trying to get something from people instead of offering them something of value and letting them come to me.  Big difference.  When I am on Twitter and Facebook, I am amazed by how many network marketers are still pitching their business opportunity and basically spamming their ‘friends’ and followers.  Honestly, I was pretty much doing the same thing in my off line marketing when I first started out.

Not only does this approach not work, it is pretty painful.  You don’t hear any positive feedback and it feels like a daily struggle to keep putting the will power into it.  When you offer value up front, you will never have to play this painful game again.  You can literally set up your marketing so that people come to you asking to be a part of whatever you are doing.

This is what attraction marketing is all about.  You attract people to you based on the value and leadership you are offering, you build relationships, and you allow them to be a part of your opportunity without any force or hard selling.

How do you do this?  Well, in a sense it is more work than spamming people or trying to shove your biz opp down people’s throats.  You have to be more thoughtful and hold a higher standard.  In another sense, I have to tell you that I enjoy what I do more now than I ever did in my first opportunity, so it’s not really work at all.

But to answer this question of how, here are a couple steps:

1.  Clearly establish your USP–what makes you unique, compelling, and attractive to others.  Don’t skip this step.  You can check out my post on defining your USP here.

2.  Set up an attraction marketing system-- This is a MUST HAVE in order to lead with value.  You can check out the MLM Lead System Pro here, as this is the system I use.

3.  Create a wordpress blog-- Start blogging on a regular basis about things that are helpful and interesting to your target market.  Don’t pitch your business on your blog; just be helpful and offer good content.

4.  Use twitter and facebook to build relationships and drive people to your valuable content.

5.  Get as many of your community members on the phone and see how you can help them.

That is a very good marketing process indeed, one that will give you MUCH better results than pitching your business on the front end.
