Prosperity Consciousness–Finding the Delicate Balance Between Action and Receptivity

Before I started writing this blog post, I did something that I have not done in quite some time.  I actually spent a good 20 minutes in pure silence, observing the flow of thoughts moving in and out of my mind, and consciously arousing a presence of peace, space, and awareness.

Usually when I sit down to write, the words rush out effortlessly, but there is a more hesitant and deliberate quality that is with me right now.  Over the past couple of weeks, I have poured a tremendous amount of energy and time into my work.  What is striking me in this moment is how easy it is to lose that delicate balance between action and receptivity.  I have taken a TON of action lately, and honestly most of the time it is a thrill for me to do what I do.

But as I have focused so much on the outer action steps that are part of my goals, I have largely ignored my inner world.  This has been a wake up call for me, one that I hopefully can offer you if you have been overly focused on your outer success.  Today I hit the wall–woke up feeling under the weather and run down.

What I have come to learn is that the only way to truly grow as an entrepreneur is by carefully tending to my own mind as much as I am acquiring new skills and taking action on them.  This means taking time for total silence, stepping out of my thoughts, and channeling a higher and deeper quality of consciousness than the one that runs on autopilot.

I don’t think of prosperity consciousness so much as doing wealth affirmations or law of attraction visualizations as I do just having a basic level of self-care that naturally allows me to be energetically open and generous.  Every action we take as human beings is primarily motivated by fear or love.  I have found that, unless I purposefully devote myself to staying awake, my actions will be tinged by stress or anxiety.  It is a default mode of living in this modern world.

I would say that 1% of humanity as far as I can tell is dwelling in prosperity consciousness on a consistent basis.  Every one of us has moments of being more expansive, where the fear and incessant need for self-protection drops away.  But very few of us LIVE in that place most of the time.

As a society, we have become addicted to states of mind that reflect scarcity, such as fear, doubt, and guilt.  We often wrap our identity around beliefs that keep these states of mind intact.

If we try to run our business with these beliefs running the show, the only motivation we have to act upon is fear and will power.  Inevitably, we will burn ourselves out.  This, as much as anything, is why 96% of  small businesses will fail within 10 years.  Every one of us is vulnerable to the scarcity mentality and if we are honest, we will admit that it comes up on a regular basis.  I know it certainly does for me.

So, if we are to be solution-oriented, the question arises:  How do I create prosperity consciousness  in my life?

In my experience (and I do not claim to be a master at this), the answer is surprisingly simple–but very, very challenging to act on in daily life.  We have to want prosperity more than we want scarcity.  We have to choose a mindset of trust, benevolence, love, and generosity more than we choose a mindset of distrust, fear, anger, and the need to be right.

How do we want prosperity more than we want scarcity?  And why would we want scarcity in the first place?  Who in the heck really wants to be stuck just getting by and perceiving the world as  a place of lack rather than abundance?

Perhaps it is one of the bitter ironies of human nature, but the truth of the matter is that we choose to stay in scarcity so much of the time.  The only possible reason for this is that is has become familiar to us as a species; it gives us a solid ground to stand on and say, ‘this is who I am and this is how life is.’  We have become victims of a distortion in perception, one in which we actually feel justified in not trusting that the universe is a completely open, mysterious, and ultimately positive place.

That is why we are stuck in scarcity.  It feels solid and provides a false sense of security.  The only way we can ever access the inner world of prosperity is when we are willing to totally give up our self-image and all of our beliefs about what life is, what money is, and how we can stay safe.  We have to be willing to let go of our cynicism, apathy, and stubborness.

Our desire to do this will typically only arise when we are just plain fed up with a life of mediocrity.  We are willing to enter the unknown, and we are willing to meet our limiting beliefs with honesty and awareness.  This means giving up who we think we are.  And this is exactly why most of us stay stuck in scarcity, even though deep down, we know that something is missing.

The desire for prosperity and freedom is within each of us.  For most people, though, the desire to maintain the status quo is even stronger.  What is boils down to is recognizing that we have a choice in every single moment to be open or closed.  I have found prosperity consciousness gets much stronger as I continually train my mind to recognize and focus on it.

As I found this evening, I always have a choice to turn my attention inward and create more openness, calmness, and trust.  These are completely natural qualities that are innate to our nature, yet they are not as loud as the voice of scarcity.  We have to be still in order to feel the energy of prosperity.  My intention is to return to this stillness again and again and again until I have formed new neural patterning that is based in abundance and generosity rather than stress and fear.

If I look back at my life even 7-8 years ago, I am amazed by how far I have come already–but it is an infinite process that requires ongoing care.  My final thought:  Prosperity is your natural state; you have just forgotten this.  It has nothing to do with how much money you have or make.  It has to do with you becoming aware of the energy and impulse within you that is beyond your beliefs, traumas, and emotions.  You can tap into this at any time.  How about right now?
