A lot of people seem to think that in order to be a successful internet entrepreneur, you must be technologically savvy. I have personally coached a lot of people that are intimidated by technology and see the computer as more of an obstacle rather than a vehicle to their success.
Allow me to make a personal distinction for you that will hopefully help you if you feel this way. I consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to internet marketing. On the flip side, I have spent HOURS this week installing a new article submitter software on my computer and screwing up the set up process multiple times, learning the endless features of my new imac, and toiling away trying to do some basic editing in imovie.
Technology can feel overwhelming. But as long as you are willing to be patient, it is all workable. This week, I had a few occasions where I really had to take a few deep breaths, as I could not help but feel like I should have been able to set up all this techie stuff sooo much faster and because of it, I was wasting valuable time.
What I came to realize, though, is that I am tested when I learn new skills and knowledge. My ego flares up and I start to question what I am doing. I think we all do this when we are growing and learning, and for some of us there is no other context for which this is more true than when we are toiling away with computers and technology.
Here are a couple quick tips that I hope you will benefit from:
- Most of the techie steps we have to take as online entrepreneurs are actually quite workable.
- If we can be mindful, patient, and non-judgmental toward ourselves, the workability is much more accessible.
- Whatever we find unworkable, we can ALWAYS delegate to a virtual assistant who can likely do it or guide us through it in a snap.
- When you finally figure out how to set up what was previously confusing you, it will never be a problem again.
Because of this, technology should never be the ultimate excuse as to why we can’t succeed as online entrepreneurs. Learning new computer and internet skills is as much about mindset as it is about innate intelligence. If we stay positive and persevere, we can almost always surprise ourselves and overcome the challenge at hand.
Yes, I had my doubts as I was spending hours with the new computer and software programs this week. But in the end, I was able to break through and get things set up the way I needed. Sure, more of these challenges will come because I am committed to CONSTANTLY absorbing new information, acquiring new skills, and taking new action. For me, being challenged by technology is just a part of the journey toward higher levels of success.
You can be a successful online entrepreneur and be a complete you know what when it comes to technology. Stay positive, get the right support around you, and persevere. This is how your computer will be an asset instead of an enemy.
