Are you vlogging yet? Or perhaps you have know clue what that silly term means? Well, if you are using the internet to build your business, vlogging is quickly becoming one of the most powerful strategies you can use to rank highly in search engines and get a lot of traffic to your blog or website.

So, what the heck is vlogging? Very simple, it’s combining online video marketing with blogging. A perfect example of vlogging is the post you are reading right now. See how I have a youtube video embedded into this blog post? Notice how I do this on a lot of my posts?

It takes me just a few extra minutes to shoot a video, throw it up on youtube, and then embed it into my blog post. What are the benefits of doing this?

1. Enhances your blog post–No doubt about it, people love video! When you can use a video to back up your writing, the perceived value of your content goes way up. People will pay more attention and they will trust you (unless you sound lame on your video).

2. Gives you better SEO rankings–when you embed your video into your blog post, it gives you that extra competitive advantage in your search engine rankings. You may notice that in this post, I am competing for the keyword ‘vlogging.’ My youtube video title has that keyword phrase in it, as does my blog title. This is a pretty darn competitive keyword phrase, but I’m still confident I can get on the first page of Google for it within the next few weeks. Check back in soon and I’ll let you know! The way I do this is through a combination of vlogging, social bookmarking, article distribution, and online video distribution. If that is way over your head right now, don’t worry about it! It’s all workable as long as you are committed to growing as an entrepreneur.

3. People can find your youtube video before they find your blog, and then click on your blog through youtube. Wow, that sounds confusing, but it’s really simple. Youtube is the 2nd biggest search engine behind Google (I think that’s right, maybe it’s 3rd behind Yahoo). Anyhow, it’s HUGE for online searches. If people are searching for vlogging on youtube, there’s a much better chance I can get my video ranked on youtube than I would on Google. Then the youtube searcher can access my blog once they click on the live link in the description next to my video. Make sense?? Just leave a comment below if you have a question about this.

This strategy works to help you dominate the first and second pages of Google regardless of what industry you are in. Very, very few people are doing this consistently (notice how this word keeps coming up in my posts?).  This is especially true for service professionals like coaches, consultants, speakers, trainers, and holistic practitioners.  Network marketers are a bit more savvy with online video marketing and blogging, but still there is endless potential to wiggle in and start owning Google for your niche.
