I am sure that, as a service-based professional or network marketer, you have heard from many sources that it is critical that you find your life’s purpose and use it as the basis for building a successful business.
I completely agree that discovering your purpose is a HUGE part of the puzzle when it comes to creating true success as an entrepreneur. Life purpose really is the foundation of all that is fulfilling and genuinely prosperous in relation to your work. There are WAY too many people out there–both employees and entrepreneurs– who are trying to force success in their livelihood because they do not have a clear recognition of their deeper purpose.
Without this foundation of purpose, true success will always elude us. Now, I don’t want to spend too much time here on how to find your life’s purpose. I would recommend picking up a copy of my book The Purpose Principle which is about 244 pages on this exact subject.
Instead, I want to talk about why finding your life’s purpose is simply NOT enough in order to achieve true success. I am sure you have heard that statement, ‘Do what you love and the money will come’, right? Well, in my experience this is only at best a half-truth.
You see, it is vital to our success that we not only clarify what our purpose is in relation to our business, but that we also make a consistent and dedicated commitment to acquiring the actual skills that make our business successful.
The brutal reality is that the majority of service-based, conscious entrepreneurs are struggling in their businesses. The don’t have enough clients, they don’t make enough money, and–underneath their attempts to ‘feel good’ and ‘think positively’–they are stressed out about money.
This is because they are so often operating under the false belief that their passion for their work will automatically lead to success. This is rarely the case.
You have to couple your purpose with the actual skills that make you money as an entrepreneur. That, my friend, is the key to success. If you just rely on your passion, you may be able to just get by in your business. If, however, you actually invest your time, energy, and money in gaining the skills that make your business money, there is absolutely no limit to the level of success you can achieve.
What are these skills? Well, I would say that about 80% of what you need to focus on is developing your marketing education. I would include the following in this list:
- copywriting skills
- persuasion skills
- internet marketing skills– social media, article marketing, PPC, forum marketing, traffic generation strategies, etc.
- developing the knowledge of creating an effective sales funnel
- closing skills
These are some of the most critical elements to your business success. If you are at all struggling to build your business, all that it means is that these skills are under-developed. I recommend tha t you absolutely immerse yourself in learning these skills. How talented you are at marketing will essentially determine how much financial success you enjoy. These are the skills to develop, refine, and get better and better at over time.
The better these skills become, the more money your business will make–and the more you will get to do the work you are so passionate about.
This is how you are going to create true freedom in your life– do the work that you were put on this planet to do and COUPLE that with gaining the skills that directly affect your bottom line. Don’t just visualize your success. Don’t just see and feel money falling from the sky. Immerse yourself in acquiring the nuts and bolts knowledge you absolutely MUST HAVE in order to succeed.
If you do this, then absolutely nothing can stop you!
